  • Coolin' problem . . . kinda stumped.

Replaced the 'state with a 160 on my '95 Camaro a couple weeks ago and it was runnin' great (of course it normally does. ;) ) Now, however, it's running great when it's moving, but God help me I have to sit in traffic! Today I was sittin' there watchin' the temp gauge go up . . . and up . . . and up . . . and up . . . . and nearly redlined!

I've heard the fan kick on while the car's idling in my lot, so I'm certain that's working.

    Got any ideas?

why did u put a 160* in it in the first place? The one to go with for our car is the 180*..It's 15* cooler than our stock 195*

no water pump noise . . . and no leaks . . . *gasp* fan motor? What are the chances it could just use a good flushing?

          -- try the 160, you'll like it. ;)

Go for it. It might help a little. Usually when temps go up at low speeds, it's a fan. If it was anything else, your temp would be high at highway speeds too. Your fan kicks on when you turn on your AC. It's a good way to check it out in your driveway. Just make sure it's actually causing air to move, not just making noises.

This may sound crazy, but try turning the heater on for a while. I had the same problem with my car, I'd turn the heater on, and the temp would drop. I think that it might be because of air getting stuck somewhere in the system, possibly where the temp sensor is. May also be that the radiator can't get rid of enough of the heat, and when you turn the heater on, the core acts as a secondary radiator. You can also try turning the AC on, which turns your fans on.
