How can I tell if my car has a type 1 or a type 2 onboard diagnostic system ? In 1993 through 1995 they seemed to use both 12 pin and 16 pin connectors and both types of ecm/pcm computers in various combinations for no particular reason. Anyone got a clue ?
Thanks
I think in 94 you have ODBI computer with an ODBI connector too..
My 95 has an ODBI computer with an ODBII hook up, I would think because this is the year they changed from I to II with 3.4 to 3.8 so they used the ODBII hookups.. my best guess. I couldn't tell you why a 93 or 94 would have an ODBII hookup.
On some 94-95 F-Bodys They used a kind of hybrid OBD2,It was called OBD2 maufacturers specific. The ALDL looks more like an OBD2 generic connector, but the OBD2 generic connector will NOT hook up to it! You'll need a scanner that has that style of interface cable,.www.autoXray.com has all types of interface cables to go with their scanners, or find someone that has that type of cable.
