• What's this problem?

1999 A4 V6 Camaro with all power options.

All gauges looking good.
Oil checks fine.
3/4 tank of gas.
Filters look good.

While pressing on the accelerator (even just to maintain speed), the engine bucks. If you've ever run out of gas before, it feels about like those last hundred meters of the car struggling to stay on. The "Service Engine Soon" light gets triggered.

Any ideas?

Just a shot in the dark but possible problems might be....

Bad coil(s)
Cat
Bad Plug(s)
Fuel Filter

See if you can find out what code you tripping and it will point you in the right direction.

if the service engine soon light FLASHES it means a MISFIRE. Solution is change plugs/wires/check coils.

Hi there, I have the SAME problem, only mine happens, (and it's EVERYTIME) AFTER half a tank, consistantly. Sometimes I can get to almost 1/4 tank, 1 time even almost empty. But I NEVER have the problem BEFORE 1/2 tank. I called the dealer, he said, 'fuel pressure regulator' so, I changed it. NOPE. (btw you CAN change the regulator WITHOUT taking off the rails, unlike everyone and every book tells you) I have seen a lotta posts/info about the plugs and wires, so I'm gonna try to change those today if I can get the time, even tho it makes no mechanical sense why the plugs/wires would only give a problem after 1/2 a tank, IMHO. I'll keep you posted. I think I'm right above 1/2 tank right now, so it's good timing This problem, for me, ONLY occurs BELOW half-tank. (and yes I changed the fuel filter also). If I get around to this today, I will snap some photos of it too ;)

Just to sure we are having the same problem, I will describe mine.

Car at 1/2 tank, (or approx).
Crusing on the freeway, 75mph.
Suddenly, car starts loosing speed, stepping on accelerator does nothing. SES light is blinking.
Pull over to emergency lane, car idles fine, won't die, just won't accelerate. Stepping on gas brings idle to 2k (if your lucky) and it kicks and bucks like it's out of gas.
Let go of gas, idles fine.
I have let it idle for 5 minutes no problem. NEVER DIES.
Limp it to gas station, get gas ABOVE 1/2 tank, presto, problem gone.

I just hope it's not the darn fuel pump

1998 Arctic White T-Top Camaro
Stock EVERYTHING, 'cept the tunes
Factory 'Handling' package (springs, roll bars)
107k miles on the clock

Well folks, I have to say BIG BIG BIG improvement, car runs like a Camaro should now, at least a 'maro with a V6 anyways

I pulled the plugs and guess what I found? First of all, stock wires on a car w/107k miles on it, second of all, NORMAL SPARK PLUGS! That's right, no coppers, no plats, NORMAL CHAMPIONS.... oh well, I am at almost 1/4 tank and still goin strong, I even smoked a FERD comin up the freeway onramp. I'll keep yah posted if I make it down to empty.

BTW changin those plugs is a BI***TCH

ALSO, seeing now how the plugs are situated and how the wires are run, you NEED to put fiberglass sheilds on your plug wires. It's no wonder why so many people have problems with plugs/wires!! I did some research and found that Taylor-Vertex makes them, HOWEVER they want 70 bux for a set!! I found the SAME material, only it's NOT pre-cut (big whoop) in the JCWhitney catalog, RIGHT under the Taylor stuff, not BRANDED Taylor, BUT it's 18 bux for 50 feet of it, and ANYTHING would be better than nothing! If anyone wants some, i'm gonna order the blue colored roll (they have red, blue, yellow, and tan, funny how they are the SAME colors that Taylor offers ), if someone wants to split the cost, I'll split the roll with yah (it's 30 bux all said and done shipping/etc) I live in Buena Park, CA. (Since this would only make sense for a local person) PM me if you are interested.

Thanks everyone. It was the wires. #2 and #3 were burned in half.
