That simply limits the top gear your car will go to. For towing or low traction situations, or whatever. The car will still shift through them normally.
so with a transgo hd2 shift kit and a trans cooler the size of texas. im breaking it...uh i doubt it.
This comment wreaks of stupidity at its finest. You're going to have problems with your trans, I don't give two ****s WHAT kind of shift kit and cooler you have. You conflicting the mechanical of the trans (putting it in 1st gear) with the electrical of the trans (hitting the SGS button). Its probably not going to end well, but my attitude lately is, if its your car, do what you want with it.:slap:
1995 Pontiac Firebird
2008 Chevrolet Silverado LT Crew Cab 4x4
Wait, Is that a V6 or V8? 1990 Chevrolet C-K 1500 series 4.3L .. 5spd
1994 JDM Euno Roadster 1.8L 5spd Bolt Ons.. etc 2000 Camaro 3.8L Auto Bolt Ons..etc
The trans cooler is 2 inches thick 18 inches long and 8 inches wide.
unlesss you have a correct and beleivable facts regarding second gear start damaging your trans other than your opinion please do share.
I actually have 2 trans that are ready to run.
I took the car out today and ran the **** out of it and held it in first and second and third with the sgs button engaged. I did multiple 0 to 100 launches and the transmission shifts the EXACT SAME EVERY TIME> the fluid does not smell burnt and is still cherry red.
I change the fluid every 10 grand in miles.
so unless you have proof of this BUTTON wearing your trans out in WOT> please do not try and tell me that my trans is going to break.
when it does. Im sure it will be for other reasons then pressing the damn SGS button.
Im going to continue and research this button and the services that it does.
If i break it due to SGS> then it breaks.
Its called trial and error.

Hey thedetailman, calm down... These guys just want to help you!
I agree with the other guys that it isn't good for the tranny to start in 2nd because it puts a lot more stress to the band as usual. But I don't think it will kill your Tranny but it will shorten it's life.
no no no....i dont start the TRANNY in second....EVER> i just press the button.
MOVING the shifter MANUALLY to 1 takes the tranny to 1...even with the sgs button pressed....BUT for some odd reason. if shifts much better through ALL the gears doing so. WITH THE button engaged.
and thank you. Im not mad...just frustrated. Ive basically built this car from the ground up mechanically and i know my cars "habits". The transmission not not ACT like its doing anything negative.
Well, if you put the Tranny in 1st then it shouldn't be a problem. What's really strange is, that it shifts better (performance wise). Do you have a "non-stock" tune in the PCM? The stock tune would make the car shift slower.
ok the sgs is available fron 94 on. and all it dose is have the computer signal 2nd gear be engaged.now this is done by triggering the 1-2 shift circuit and affecting the line pressure to apply 2nd gear. so it will give you a different shift feel, but its still not good for your components.
Hey guys. For starters I’ve always been a big car guy, I love all types of cars and can appreciate all types of engineering. I’ve always been a Chevy...
