As you all know. most f bodys 98 and up and even 97's had this option as gms attempt to put a cheap TRACTION solution to out cars and it usually didnt work.

BUT! I figured something out the other day that blew my shorts off.

i started the car and drove down the road to the nearest stop. I figured id see if i could mess around with the second start BUTTON. (i like pressing buttons) :D soo. i did. Which made the little light come on and instantly made me feel like somewhat of a ricer because i thought i was cooler. haha jk. TO THE POINT> i moved my A4 to the 1 position with second gear start ON. I floored it and roasted the tires almost all the way through 1rst and right when it hit 58-5900 rpms i went into 2nd. OMG! it churped into second and shifter faster than it ever has.

When driving normally prior to this finding. i know that when 2nd gear start was on. It always shifter more crisp into second. ALWAYS.

my ? does 2nd gear start somehow increase line pressure? I noticed a huge difference...HUGE.

Hmm 2nd gear start button ay? I have an ASC button, but that's not 2nd gear start, it's their lame anti-spin crap that takes away power from the wheels. I always have ASC off. I do usually take the A4 through the gears when I race in case I need to hold a gear, also I like having the gear I want when doing rolling starts (ie. holding 1st or 2nd at higher rpm). It's possible at WOT with 2nd gear start it's shifting up at a higher shift point which may feel smoother. I noticed the different shift points have different smoothness. My smoothest shifts are at WOT when I bang it into 2nd and at very low rpm if im accelerating gently. The ones in between are much more sloppy, but still much tighter than stock since I have the trans tuned with hp tuners.

Thats why I prefer a manual.

second gear start is just that, it starts the trans in second gear. Made for slippery conditions to help you take off without spinning

It's just a different map in the ECU. And like cam98aro said, it's bad for your trans if you use it often.
I looked at the stock ECM file and I don't see a reason why it should run much better. The only two things it does is disable the 1st gear in D/[D] and extend the shift times.

Basically it's like a "performance button" other cars have. Our button is more like a "anti-performance button". :)
I used my HPT and made a real performance button out of it. :rock:

If you like that, do a Transgo shift kit , Vette Servo and Hptuners , I'll chirp 2nd and 3rd gear even with 180LBS in the rear and 315/35/17 tires.

Well, your ride has a bit more power than the usual V6 F-Body... ;)
I think I need a Supercharger... :D

I have that option too. I rarely use it.

I always think that 1st gear first is the best way to build up speed fast.

2nd gear start is used for driving in the snow to get traction, not to build speed up

well.. I start the car in 1st...with the selector and the button SGS (second gear start) engaged.

im sorry. but i have really noticed something differnt about how the transmission performs. its much better. more firm. seems better/

I have no idea of how to "shift" the car on an automatic. I see the 3-2-1 on the shifter, but have no idea how to use them.
