  • question about sea foam

    Hey all,

I just have a quick question about sea foam. I never used it but I have seen the thread's here and figured I would give it a shot. I know that after you sea foam they say to change the oil and I was planning on doing that right after. My question is the gas. What I mean is I know that the car will "smoke" quite a bit after pouring the sea foam in. But will it contenue to do so if the car has almost a full tank of gas? Also I was wondering is it OK to pour sea foam in with almost a full tank or should I wait till it's less?

    Thanks all

    Re: question about sea foam

    ok....
I..proudly said am a SEA foam fanatic. lol

pouring it into the gas will not allow it to smoke what so ever.
(basically just cleans out injectors and the fuel rail as well as the pump and its lines.)

    -

pouring it into the oil will not allow it to smoke what so ever.
(basically cleans the sludge off of your lower end, keeps things free moving and can sometimes-most free stuck lifters)

    -

Pouring it into the brake booster line will ALLOW IT TO SMOKE...ALOT if done right
(pour some into the brake boooster line, not too much. DONT drown it, you risk damaging your pistons from what is call spiratic combustion. Once put through the car will idle VERY VERY Rough. PROMPTLY turn the vehicle off and weight a good 5 min. Do the same procedure and wait another 5 minites. After that Get in your car and drive it AGGRESIVELY from a stop. Dont drive it like a f1 race car, for the simple fact that your fuel tables are off and your air to fuel ratio is not at all correct when the chemical is in your car. Once the white smoke stops Pluming from your exhaust pipes that means the car is completely rid of the chemical and your throttle response as well as mileage should be much better.)

there you have it. Sea-foam for dummies. lol (not saying your a dummie. its a pun off of the book series.)

lol thank man I appreceate the reply. One thing I don't quite understand is when you say "Once put through the car will idle VERY VERY Rough. PROMPTLY turn the vehicle off and weight a good 5 min. Do the same procedure and wait another 5 minutes". Does that mean pour the sea foam into gas and oil and wait 5 minutes before pouring it into break line? Or wait 5 minutes after I pour it in? Now also I wanted to ask how long should I let the car idel after pouring it in before I drive it? And do I need to let it sit before I drive it?

How I always use it, I split the can up into 1/3s.

        1/3 into the gas tank.

1/3 into the oil (change oil after no more than 500 miles).

1/3 in a vacuum line. When almost all of it has been sucked into the vacuum line I let the last little bit choke the engine down and stop it. Then let it sit 15-20 mins, start it up and let it idle then drive it when it stops smoking. What your doing with this is cleaning the carbon deposits off your valves, combustion chambers, and top of the pistion. Gm used to have a simliar product called Top End Cleaner, you used it the same way.

          Re: question about sea foam

(assuming you know where the brake booster vacuum line is)
having the car idling. with someone in the car keeping the engine 1500 rpms or higher. but not much."not having someone in the car will result in the engine stalling. There for alot of wasted time by restarting the damn thing a million times. lol

Poor some of the sea foam into the line at a steady stream. well...i drizzle dont DUMP it down.
it wont hurt your hands so dont worry..BUT it will find the cuts pretty fast lol.

after youve poored about 4-6 ounces into the line shut the car off. wait 5 min.
start it back up and then pour about 4 ounces in at a faster rate. SHUT car off quickly.

once you start it back up. you need to be in the car READY to role. Dont sit there reving it in park. The engine NEEDS to have load. You need to be driving down the road.

on the initial take off. you need to be about 3/4 throttle to about fifty and then at fifty have it to the floor to about 70.

slow back down and do the same thing.

turn around and do the same thing back home. (by the time you get home all the smoke should be gone. If there is more. then do it again.

          in a nut shell.

          step 1.
          guy in car.
          step 2.
          you under hood.
          step 3.
          pull brake line off.
          step 4.
          have person start car.
          step 5.
          poor 5 onces into line.
          step 6.
shut car off. wait 5 min.
          step 7.
          start car.
          step 8.
poor another 5 ounces into the line at a faster rate (while your pooring into line in step 5 and this one HAVE the person keep the engine running. "it will try to stall")
          step 9.
turn car off. wait 5 min
          step 10.
get in car and drive it like your showing off to your girl friend lol.

            Re: question about sea foam

uhhh.....you need to change your oil no less than 50 miles after.
The broken down sludge residue breaks down viscosity and could result in bearing wash out.

First time I did my engine, I had no idea it would be so much smoke. I had my exhaust pointing to my friends screaned in front porch. Haha, I cried from laughing so hard. every one was running and screaming not knowing which way to run. hahaha Soooooo Go to a friends and do this, especially if there is a lot of ppl around.

                have fun and good luck

                  Re: question about sea foam

i say this in every seafoam thread, DO NOT PUT IT IN THE OIL, the seafoam will break up all of the gunk that sits in the oil pan, and put it through the engine.

i have seen seafoam cause way more engine tapping than i have seen it help.

i only recommend using seafoam in engines that have always had proper oil changes (every 3000 miles) and ones that have used seafoam from the start, adding it to an older engine is a disaster waiting to happen.

i love posting this in threads only to have people say "you're wrong, i use it all of the time in my oil" so the thread starter listens to that person, then makes a thread a week later wondering why his engine is tapping loudly

I already have done all the sea foaming in my car but I did however change my oil like right after. So I hope it doesn't do anything. But I have to tell you after sea foaming my car WOW I was surprised by the way it runs. SOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooo much smother and the hp loss...psh NOT ANYMORE! She's like brand new all over again!

I hope not. I mean I did change my oil like right after I got done taking it out for a drive. And right now it seems to be running really strong. So I guess now we will just have to wait and see..... damn it now you have me worried! LOL
