  • oil pressure fluctuates

Im having a problem with my oil pressure. It seems to fluctuate and drop the higher the engine temp is and the harder i press on the gas. When the engine is cold the oil pressure is fine but once it gets warmed up it drops and begins to erratically fluctuate. I dont know what could be causing this and has been a problem for a while. Also the car feels to hesitate or misfire when i press the gas hard from a stop and it doesnt always happen only sometimes. I have 4 videos showing how the oil pressure fluctuates and drops over time. hopefully someone here can give me an idea of whats going on. ps i replaced the oil pressure switch/unit about an year and a half ago.thanks

    Re: oil pressure fluctuates

If you have acsess to a mechanical oil PSI gauge i would check it with that to eliminate the possibility of a bad oil pressure sending unit. Then go from there.

      Re: oil pressure fluctuates

Looks like a flaky oil pressure sending unit also.

I quit buying oil pressure sending units from Autozone because I went through 3 with the same symptoms. Napa sells decent ones that do not bleed oil where the pigtail wires come out from over time.

      Questions for Firebird 19_99:

1- How many miles on your engine?
2- What viscosity weight oil are you using? ( 5W or 10W30 )

Since I have Seafoamed my engine years ago, it runs smoother and my oil pressure gauge does not fluctuate erratically like the videos posted. Good to see you posted videos for clarity, nice job.

yea i bought mine from autozone too lol as to your questions my car has 121000 miles on it and i use 10W30. I didnt seafoam my car this summer last time i did it was last year but i still had the problem back then anyways. And thanks for the compliment i thought it would help more than just explaining it lol
