  • Bizarre SES Issue

I have a 2000 V6 Camaro that is mostly stock, has a cold air induction kit, Flowmaster CatBack system, and about 120k miles.

For the past month or so, I've been getting a SES indication that alternates between being solid and blinking during a heavy rain, and then continues for a few days after. I'm thinking I'm getting water in somewhere, possibly through the cold air induction kit, but is fine once it dries out.

Am I on the right track here? How do I fix the issue? Any help you experts could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Clean your MAF screen and intake. Then you'll have to do something different if you want to keep driving in the rain.

ur not getting water in anything lol...

a solid SES light could be ur Mass Air Flow Sensor or your EGR.

a blinking indicates a misfire...time to do a tune up aka plugs, wires and possibly coil packs.

go to autozone, have your codes read for free...its either going to be a cylinder misfire or a random misfire

I didn't think that water in anything made much sense, but came to that conclusion when it only started to happen during a heavy rain. Now that I think about it, she's about do for new plugs and wires.

He says he has a cold air induction kit. The one I have sucks water up if it gets wet enough. That is exactly what happens to me.The SES light comes on when I drive in te rain and then it runs sh&%ty. Dry it all out and clean it..then it runs like a champ and the light goes off. I havent put the air box back on yet, but it will keep happening and it's good way to destroy the engine!

Any particular reason for this to start happening now? I've had the kit installed for years.

bingo, pretty common on our fbody cars. The coils are right under the cowl and heavy rains and a leaking gasket cause water to reach the coils and ICM.

Water isn't getting up his CAI unless he is constantly driving through 1ft puddles.

If you are going to clean the MAF, use a MAF cleaner on the wires.
