  • burnt oil smell from vents

hey guys, let me start off by saying this is not for the camaro, but for my dads 3.4 impala.. but im hoping maybe someone here has an answer, because i posted this on another forum, and well to put it nicely i got some pretty stupid answers.

i just replaced the LIM and UIM gaskets, ever since then when the fan inside of the car is turned on after everything warms up i get a burnt oil smell coming from the vents only when the car is sitting, like at a red light.

its possible it could be exhaust, but it really smells like oil. there is a tube that goes from the back valve cover into the intake (by the air box) i thought that this tube was leaking since it didnt fit snug, and i put rtv around it, but it didnt change anything.

so i basically have nothing to go on now, there are no leaks/drips, the oil and coolant look fine, and there is no abnormal smoke from the exhaust.

the best answers i got so far were the exhaust has a hole in it (i find it hard to believe i put a hole in the exhaust when i never touched it) and that since it is cold the exhaust is going under the car and coming into the interior (well, that could be it, but it has never done that the 6 years he has had the car up until the da before i changed the gasket)

Might have a small leak dropping on the Y pipe , or like you sugessted a exhaust leak. Check the header gaskets too.

check the pcv valve...pull your air filter also to see if there is oil anywhere around.

i found the problem, the valve cover gasket must have slipped out of place when i installed it the first time, it was letting oil leak onto the exhaust manifold and causing the smell.
