I believe this is to do with the ignition switch right?

I went to Autozone but they told me that there are TWO of them... What gives and which one do I need?

Not always the case. My car did that for awhile then wouldnt start at all and the light always came on.

What you have to do is bypass it. Search "VATS bypass", theres been alot of write-ups on it.

Just wondering, if I bypass VATS, then someone will beable to steal my car right?

VATS or no VATS I'm pretty sure it being bypassed wont make any difference.

But honestly I'm not 100% sure. I highly doubt VATS would keep someone from stealing it anyways...

Also check your key, if there is visible grime or something on the key, it might not recognize it.

Well, true I guess... I still would really like to fix it the way it came though... but I'll look into the bypass.

Yeah the key is new... so I doubt its the problem - I checked for that... Its been doing this off and on for awhile now.

I did the bypass simply cause the cars still got an alarm, power locks and etc. I doubt anyone steals v6 f-bodys anyways, lol.

It's usaully the entire ignition switch in the steering column(sp?) itself.

Ah, well my intent was putting a V8 in it or turboing it, thats why I was concerned cuzz I dont wanna invest this much money into it and one day someone runs off with it.. cuzz it kinda is a nice looking car.

Is that the mechanical one? the one for like $30 at Autozone? kinda looking like a long white bar?

you can just lock your car, unlock it improperly (from the inside pushing the thing on the door) open the door, let the alarm run its full cycle and then it goes off

What will go off? the VATS system? Or the security light?

I would seriously prefer to fix it. not bypass it... which part needs to be replaced? The autoparts stores are telling me that there is two of them. Is it the switch where the key goes or the switch under the dash? Can someone just get me a photo of it?
