So in the past week my car has been randomly not wanting to start and just acting like its dead. First of all, off subject but this might have to do with it is my security light on my dash has been on and stayed on for like the past 2 months or more. Ive looked it up and (i think it has to do with the ignition messing up right ??) also my remote (Lock, unlock, alarm, trunk) stops working and i have to re program it, then it works. but now every once and awhile at least once a day i put the key in the ignition i hear my fuel pump come on my gauges turn on and then i turn to crank the car and it just dies and i have no power i can take the key out put it back in and try again still nothing. BUT if i unplug the battery then plug it back in, the car will get power again and will start right up. What could be the reason my car is doing this ??? if you know please help thank you.

wait does the engine try and crank when you start it?
I'm thinking when you unplug the battery the computer resets itselfIn America's Hat!

Re: No Idea AT ALL!!!!
My 2000 impala did the same thing, everything seemed to work, then turn the ignition over and everything went dead. It ended up beeing a loose battery connection. The extra strain would apparently cause a voltage drop accross the bad connection and the computer would kill everything (I guess to save the battery or starter?). I know you said that you've disconnected the battery and reconnected it, but I'd recheck all the wires leading to and from the battery for corrosion.

Re: No Idea AT ALL!!!!
Even though you said screw me basically in your fun tach install thread I'll try to help. P.S. I will poke fun at "rice". Common, ya had to have known someone would. Anyways.
I had corrosion on my battery and it did the exact same thing. And yeah a loose cable will do the same. If you have any corrosion clean it ALL up and make sure you have a good mounting surface.

Re: No Idea AT ALL!!!!
I had to install a cut-off switch on my pickup's battery because it developed a short that would drain the battery in 24 hours if left parked, I simply could never find the short. It was a 99 cent switch, and when it started to crap out, my truck started to do the same thing your describing. Basically, +1 to the battery connections others have mentioned.
Either that or there is so much metal dust in your paint from a billion keyings that your car is the center of a magnetic disturbance.
