what fuel pumps from other cars will work on a 3.8 camaro/firebird?

i'm not taking about the whole sending unit.. just the motor itself. a guy that works at advance said probably some v6 s10s and blazers might work. anyone know for sure?

and what is the differences between the pumps used in the 93-02 v6 and v8 camaros? i've used a v6 pump in my z28 with no problem.. just curious if they have the same flow.

are pumps just pumps? if you wanted to, could u use some ford fuel pump in a chevy? are they different in alot of ways?

A fuel pump is a fuel pump and are not car manufacture specific... (ford, chevy, chrysler)... they're vendor specific so yes a Camaro can use a fuel pump from a completely different make / model car so long as the fuel lines are able to connect properly. All its going to do is pump gas...

There ARE differences in the pump they use however between the V6 and V8 cars. The V6 and V8 pump pump the same PRESSURE, but NOT the same Volume as the V8 pump pumps higher volume... the V6 pump has been known to keep V8's running but its not recommended as that just leaves you closer to running lean in WOT situations.

i got a pump off a blazer yesterday and it wont work in my z28..

i bought some pumps for 99+ camaro 3.8s and they wont work on my 98 or 97.

my gas gauge isnt working and i've tried 5 different sending units with different floaters. maybe i'm not positioning the floater right inside of the tank?

No the Fuel sending units have different resistances. You have to use your proper sender and float arm.

You have to buy the correct pump for your car. (The F-body v6/v8 pumps are interchangeable) It has to be the same model year though. pre 97 are metal tanks, 98 is metal tank but the bucket is a different design and the 99+ cars are plastics with yet another design.

The buckets look similar from some vehicles but they are different heights widths etc... The same platforms usually have interchangeable pumps if the model year is the same. (W-body, F-body etc..)
