  • Tax return spending

Not quite sure where this would go but w/e.

Well it looks like I should be getting a very healthy tax return this year and here is what I plan on spending it on for my bird tell me what you think.

KYB AGX adjustable shocks front and rear 2 each # 741034 & 743019

    Hotchkis 1" drop springs #1904

    Pace Setter headers #1208

And parts to build a PC in my car with a touchscreen display for music, vids for my passenger on a long trip and most importantly as an interface for megasquirt.

now if there is ANYTHING and I mean ANYTHING that is recommended or needed for the first 4 items please let me know so I can add them to the shopping list.

For the pace setters you should get some abbot gaskets and locking bolts. For the shocks you may want new mounts in the front.

From what I'm told the KYB AGX are just too limited in their adjust-ability to be useful since they are just 1 way adjustable. Strano recommended against them when I askd about KYB AGX as well saying that the general complaint is that you won't be able to find the "right" setting if you plan to track the car. He recommended the Koni shocks if I was dead set on adjustable shocks. I went with the Bastiens. I love the ride with the hotchkis springs and those shocks. I added some LCAs, sway bars, new bushings, new panhard bar, and some other things and it's awesome now, like on rails.

thanks I do wish the shock manufacturers woud give some kind of compression and rebound strength to compare so it would make things easyer when choosing shocks. I do think being this is a DD and I am on a budget I'll still go with the AGX being a lot of people say they like them for a play car and its impractical for me to blow another $400 just so I can tune the compression and rebound individually.

side note I cant seem to find a link for the gaskets from abbot

        hey,

I think you have to contact abbot for an order of gaskets & bolts. I dont think they list em on the site any more or maybe ever.

you should look around for the headers imo i found a good deal when i got mine about an year ago i paid $190 shipped for them. As for the gaskets you do have to email them to get them from abbott their 35. Good luck and have fun

                  Re: Tax return spending

They are paper and may fail for some people. I've used the paper ones without much trouble, but i did repeatedly make sure my bolts were torqued properly after headers were mounted. I can definitely tell its a crap gasket though. I'm sure it would burn through instantly given the smallest chance.

Keep us updates on the PC in dash thing. I would just go with a double din, much easier lol.

OneEightSeven, do you have any before and after pics with the hotchkis springs? I was planning on bilstein HDs and hotchkis shocks, but im afraid the drop isnt even noticeable lol. If you could PM me some thatd be awesome

                          Whitdog,

I'll dig up a photo comparison. It's not a huge drop, but IMO it is noticeable and it's as low as I'd ever go. I have a few friends that think its higher than stock, but that's because their cars are sagging on old 150k+ mile shocks/springs. When you see a camaro on fresh stock shocks/springs you'll see how big of a drop it really is.

The body doesn't look as low as I'd like, but the motor, exhaust, etc.. are all really low. That's great for handling and performance and I don't recommend going lower. There are so many places I can't drive to now, because I will end up tearing a header off. I can't imagine being any lower. The main problem is that GM made the body (specifically wheel wells) look like it's a 4x4. They should have rolled em lower and wider and put wider wheels on stock. You would need a huge drop to get flush (think bags with your exhaust resting firmly on the ground.)

You could go with bigger wheels while maintaining a 40mm profile to fill em out and then correct your speedo. This will gear you down though, but not a problem if you have like 3.73 or higher gearing IMO. I will probably do that once I'm ready for some forged wheels.

                          *EDIT:

Here is how she sits today:
                          http://rootit.org/camaro/photos/camaro-002.jpg

And how she looked the day I bought her, the shocks were already pretty worn and the springs weren't great, but not toooooo much sag, very low mileage camaros sit higher:

well some of it is going there.

Thanks for the info on the gaskets guys I looks but could not find a thread about them.

On the PC I have parts for a pretty powerful comp laying around so its cheaper to make a remote comp and add the touch screen vs build the comp and get a double din HU with a screen.

oh and most likely I'll be buying from E-bay anyway for the shocks springs and headers its a but load cheaper when you factor in the shipping.
