I'm quite curious as to why it would cause premature failure.

Thanks for the link. I'll see if I can do that :) I'm guessing you're the same one the responded to my email with this:

97 has a bucket but no jet pump
Our FLT1 kit will work for you.

I have no idea what this means. Can someone translate into layman's terms? Basically I just want to know if this will work for my '97 v6 Camaro (which he says it will) and if it will function like the stock pump (letting me go to "empty". Still unsure about this). I have a friend that can help me drop the tank and install it... ...but the details in the above quote are Greek to me.

Yea the Racetronix unit operates exactly like a stock pump, except it flows a hell of a lot more  I have a 97' Bird 3.8l and use the pump they label as an "F body LT1". Fit perfectly.

Nice! :D Maybe I'll get a little boost in acceleration now :P. It's kind of crapping out lately since the pump is on its deathbed.

Link basically says that if you don't clean the tank the warranty on your pump is null.

Well, I plan on cleaning the tank. ...anything to save me the headache of having to take the thing out again.
