I'm just curious...what kind of fuel mileage are most of you guys getting? I've only driven my '02 Firebird for a month before storing it for the winter, so I haven't really had the chance to check. I know I got ~21-23 mpg's on my '97 3100 Grand Am, I'd assume the 3.8 to be around the same? Especially you forced induction guys, as I have plans for and have began saving for going that route next winter.
Honestly, as long as I'm getting as good as or better than my '00 2.5L Mazda pick-up (~17-19 mpg), I'm happy..lol
My LS1 swap with bolt ons gets 20ish city and 25ish on the highway. I still need to tune it big time so after I do that, it should go up another 3-4 mpg hopefully.
For me, when I first take the car out of storage it seems to get crummy milage.
I usually seem to get somewhere around 20 mpg. It's not a daily driver so when I do take it out I'm a bit aggressive LOL. It seems to me it's all about how you drive it.

Well, like almost anyone that owns one of these cars, I also have a pretty heavy foot...lol. But it sounds like everyone is getting about what I expected to see. I'm glad it should be better than my truck though. In a way, it's kind of disappointing that my 4-banger truck with the 2.5L is getting worse mileage than a v6 with twice the HP..lol
Our vehicles use more fuel to reach operating temps in northern states that experience more colder climates. That's the onboard GM computer at work. You wouldn't gun a cold engine so a 5 minute warmup would make the engine last longer than raw fuel wash past the piston rings.
Fuel blends are also at work here especially during the winter. You can thank the US Govt for the Clean Air Act. Ethanol, more than anything else, robs power, in exchange for better emissions.
Cars using summer-blend gasoline spew fewer harmful emissions and get slightly better fuel economy than those using winter-blend fuel.
In the summer I have seen 400+ miles to the tank. Tune your car for optimal mileage.
