  • Intermittent Blinker Problems

Heyo!! Well, I'm in "fix it" mode. I'm getting my AC fixed today, going to replace my fuel pump/filter soon, but I want to keep my blinkers working as well.

My blinkers are crazy you guys. Either one works, the other works, or neither work.

When they work, they blink like normal, when they don't, the light on the dash stays solid.

What would this indicate? It's been going on for quite a while. They'll work fine for a few months then blammo, failure... ...then they start working again. They've started and stopped working many many times.

    Any questions, just ask!

Oh, and my blinker fluid is topped off.

The first thing I would check is the turn signal flasher.

What am I looking for? Would it tend to get corroded? ...or are they so cheap that I should just replace it? I know how to solder a bit so would that be needed at all?

      Thanks :)

It just plugs into a harness and shouldn't cost more than a few bucks. It looks like this and should be located as in the first pic. There is a clip it fits into on the support strut.

Thanks guys. I'll try cleaning the contacts and if that doesn't work I'll replace the turn signal flasher.

What year is the car? If it has DRLs the sockets could be melted....

My 97 fried a socket but it only affected the one that was toast, could be though.

DNA - i had this same issue with my 1997 camaro...the blinkers would work fine for weeks at a time, then not work for a day or two...then work fine again. nothing seemed to affect it (bumps, water, etc) i NEVER figured it out

lol. Yeah. Sometimes there seems to be a link between weather/moisture and functionality, but I never see a strong enough link. A mechanic messed with the contacts a while back and it worked briefly then stopped working again, so I'm going to really get in there and clean them here when I have some time and see if that fixes it. If not, I'll buy the blinker box mentioned above. If not that, well... ...faulty wiring I guess!

I hate having to intimidate my way into getting a spot when I'm changing lanes, but without a blinker there's not much you can do except floor it and squeeze in.
