  • To be (an RS,) or not to be? That is my question.

So I've been trying to figure out: What exactly is the SLP RS Camaro? (2001-2002)
From what I've read, all '01 and '02 RS Camaros were made by SLP (actually they were modified by SLP.)
They were shipped to SLP where they received Z28 sway bars, a Z28 style catback (dual exhaust + 5hp),
racing stripes, three exterior RS badges, one interior RS badge, and a bowtie grille.
    ZR1 style wheels were optional.
An SLP sticker was slapped on the door next to the factory's and sent to the dealership.

So if all of the above is true, what is my car?
    Dual exhaust = NO
    Racing stripes = NO
    Z28 sway bars = Don't think so
    Bowtie grille = NO
ZR1 wheels = NO (mine came with steel rims and hubcaps)
    SLP door sticker = NO
    Badging = YES

It would seem that SLP unloaded the car from the truck, slapped a few RS badges on it,
and sent it on it's merry way without doing anything to it.
Or am I missing something in my research? Does anyone here have any insight into the '01-'02 RS package?

Here is a picture of a stock 2002 RS I found online: (with optional wheels)

I'm thinking the original owner got jipped.

Didn't some have the ground effects kit too?

According to my research - The SLP RS Camaro was not availible with
the Y3F Sport Appearance Package, or the Y87 Performance Handling
Package and limited slip differential (which is consistant with mine.)

I've got an '02 RS with all the documentation from the factory. I've got everything you mention with the exception of an SLP sticker in the door and the optional wheels.

I think its pretty likely someone slapped on the RS badges on your car. I would recommend taking them off since you don't have the characteristics of an SLP RS, or the sport appearance package like the Pre-97 RS.

I bought it because it's a Camaro, not because it's an RS. Plus I got a pretty
good deal on it in excellent condition. No, I didn't get jipped.

FWIW, I have a BNIB SLP Bowtie Grill that I could part with for the right offer.
