  • Fuel pump failing?

So what kind of life did you guys get out of your factory fuel pumps?

I think mine might be starting to go, occasionally, it will whine(you know how it will get louder if you are on fumes and you are running the pump loan, mine does that occasionally with like a half tank)

Also occasionally, If I am running they car, shut it down, then crank it up a few min later it will be a little hard starting, almost like the pump is too warm. Figure 11 years, 110k might be getting to the point.

I'd rather avoid waiting for it to just go out and leave me stranded.

Also anyword on the advance auto replacement? Probably the cheapest route with the 40% off deal, and I think I have a gift card.

my fuel pump has been whining for the passed year or so now.. i dont really think whining is a sign that it is going to die soon, but it probably does mean that it is worn.

the fuel pumps in the f bodies seem to go out a lot, mainly due to the shape of the tank.

your problem sounds like it may be the fuel filter though, and a dirty fuel filter will put strain on the pump and cause it to whine.

Its a new filter.... Maybe 2k miles on it.

Ok good to see it can whine for awhile... F-body pumps do go out, and just had to replace one on another 11 year old chevy. It is getting about the time.

My original pump went out at about 145k, replacement must have been defective since it only lasted 8 months and 10k.
