  • Smoking under the hood after a drive.

I swear this is getting rediculous and I'm about to say F it and just trade the damn car away. It's running fine but I noticed that when I was pulling it into the garage after shutting it off that there was smoke coming from underneith the hood, I couldn't trace it to the exact spot. The car run's fine but this smoking deal I'm not happy with. Could it be a head gasket? something simple?

My dodge intrepid had the same issue a few months ago and it needed well over $500 in gaskets. I hope this isn't the case but if it is I'm going to break even with it and just sell the damn car. I'm tired of leaving it alone for a few days and **** breaks for no reason.

This car is like a ferrari, it's very expensive to maintain and isn't easy to work on the mechicals, I'm seriously considering the MR2 right now. At least I know if something breaks on one of those they won't cost an arm and a leg as well as a whole shop of GM certfied techs to work on it.

Probably the same reason as why mine smokes "from under the hood". Leaking oil on the Y-pipe.

Not to mention MR2's look retarded. Even The Spyders. And they're slow as hell.

well start here...is there any smells? burning oil? coolant?

get a flash light and get under the car and look for leaks.

if the car is running fine....check your oil levels for a few days to see if your losing oil.

could be a valve cover, oil pan gasket....

and i think that our cars our some of the easiest cars to work on if you have the correct tools. he!l you can get inside the engine bay and stand in front of the block there is so much room. lol

Psh. Bring it by the Jiffy Lube at Stetson Hills&Powers and I'll personally go look where you're leaking from. Plus pits are alot easier to get access from than a driveway.

Imports suck to work on and f bodys are pretty easy. I dropped my tranny and put in a stall after having never done anything close to that. Whats the smoke smell like, is it sweet? when you pop the hood where is it coming from?

I've been searching for the leak and have had no luck in finding it. I doubt its the head gasket but there's oil all over the exhaust on the back so i'm guessing its the oil pan gasket just guessing.

It could also be the spark plugs.

Mid engined cars are typically faster and easier to work on. Especially if your gonna go the kitcar route like I'm planning on doing.

Replacing the oil pan gasket requires "Lifting" the whole motor:rolleyes:

As I said earlier, this is exactly where my "smoke" comes from. BTW, dealer wants $800 to replace the oil pan gasket.

Rear main seal. Common failure point on these cars. Yours has over 100k miles on it and you expect it to not leak? Not even a mid-engine car can be held up to those expectations.
