Our 3.8 's have balanced shafts , but are you talking about rotating assembly?

Unless there is a method I am unaware of, you have to basically put the pistons, crank, rods and flywheel on a workbench. That makes it only worth it if you are doing a full rebuild.

Im very big into air cooled volkswagens, and every engine I build for myself i balance. I have never built an engine that I was afraid to spin up to 6k RPMs. That of course is on some old technology, so its worth a good bit for me to do it. On our engines, I'm not sure how much it would be worth. If you can pay someone to do it for $205 then I say go for it. Thats also considering you already have the engine out for a rebuild or something

I think Shizzel had his balanced and maybe 97RS4life maybe did his , only 2 I can think of that may have done a balance of their motors.

                    Re: balancing

I had mine balanced because my rotating assembly was no longer close to stock. It was an L36 with diamond forged pistons, L32 rods, polished stock crank and aluminum flywheel. My personal experience was horrible. My flywheel chunked the weight the machine shop had put on there, and you cant exactly just rebalance it right quick. If you are altering the rotating assembly then you should get it balanced though.

all my rotating assembly parts are oem replacement or reconditioned i just wonder if balancing will counter act on the balancing shaft or vibration dampner

House of balance is the place to go. I deal with them all the time through work. They specialize in balancing and vibration and have been balancing engines long before machine shops started too.
