  • Leaks and such...

Alright, so I was checking my transmission at work today, and a few things,
    1) Pasenger side of the block, antifreeze line that goes into the block, plastic elbow is leaking when engine is cold? I assume that's the O-ring?
    2) Second is it normal to have ATF in a T-5?
    3) Transmission output shaft leaking, how hard is the gasket to change? By gasket I mean O-ring...
    4) Random, what tire pressure is typical? 32? I have 260/45/16's..

Any and all help is appreciated..

260s on stock wheels? damn that is kind of wide...

    Either way.

    1) expect if you stare at that elbow for more then 30 seconds straight it will disentegrate. I'd get new ones before you toucht it.
    2) yep, forgot the type, but I am sure its listed on here somewhere.
    3) you have to pull the driveshaft, which is easy, then just pry it out and hammer a new one in. Very easy, but I think its a dealer only part.
4)32 is fine, you could probaly go higher if you watn.

They might be 255's? It's the same thing that came stock on my 94 T/A though.
      1) Explain?
      2) Alright.
      3) I think I'll hold off on that till I get my alum. 1 piece.
      4) I go 35 usually so I think that's good....

He's saying you should replace the elbow as they are made of ****ty plastic.

Well I'm going to... but how the hell do you get them off? The mounts holding them are solid as can be unless I missed something important.

Also, what would I replace it with?

Autozone or something similar carries them. ATF does indeed go into the manual transmission. I run 35 or so on my 275/40/17.

I checked Autozone on my way home last night but no luck.

That's the same thing, but I take it he's leaking from the white connector, not the black elbow that is on the other side. But it is good to know that's my heater core inlet..

Im with you now. The black plastic coolant elbow that was mentioned earlier can be found in the HELP! section at autozone or equivalent. It may be labeled as a buick or pontiac 3.8 part, but its the same thing. You have to remove your belt, unbolt the alternator, and unbolt the water jacket to get the elbow off and back on.

Yeah, I got them today. I guess the guy last night was an idiot. Surprise surprise. But as for the fix I'm waiting on the engine to cool down before I mess with it right now. Thanks guys

Remember to take some scotchbrite and clean out the inside of the holes of the corrosion and other junk. I use a soft wire wheel on a dremel.

Then use a bit of vaseline to lube up the hole (just a bare little bit) so it slides in nice without tearing up or dislodging the orings.

I took some light steel wool to the holes and WD40 for the seals... close enough right?
