OK all I need a little help here. I have a 1996 3.8 liter Camaro. Car has been sitting about 2 years with almost NO fuel in it. Go to attempt to start it up and discover that the fuel pump is not kicking on. Car will run in starting fluid. I checked the fuse (good), disconected the wires from the plug above the rear axel and checked for power (good). Is it possible that the fuel pump just went south while sitting? I am attempting to rule everything else out first because I dred removing that fuel pump. Any insites?

Just in case you didn't replace it yet the inline fuel filter?
And also if there was no fuel I'm hoping you added some more.
If there wasn't enough fuel in the tank you could have burnt out the pump trying to prime the system (i think the fuel cools the pump). If I had needed to check my pump I would definitely be cutting the trap door in the trunk like docta suggested rather than dropping the axle.
96 White M5 Camaro. Manual everything. Magnaflow cat, dynomax dual outlet axle back. Swapped to a disc rear with 3.42s and a torsen differential, kyb gr2 rear shocks, moog rear endlinks.
Ok to clarify, I put fuel in the car before I started to try and start it. I checked the fuel filter and it is clear. I guess I don't understand how that would effect the fuel pump turning on.

Sounds like the pump is dead, you can buy a Walbro for about $100 off ebay and use hose clamps to mount it.

No problem MegaHertz i appreciate any help. Thanks ssms, does anyone know if there is a way to test the fuel pump once I get it out? can I jump it to a power source? I just don't get how it just dies from sitting.
