need help plz

so my firebird left me stranded. When i put the key in the ignition, i can turn all the accessories(radio, gauges etc) on. when i make the final turn to start the car it just starts clicking at the starter and brain box. My battery was reading 9 amps/volts. so i took my brand new one out of my suburban and hooked it up, it didnt start the car. So my question is, is it my starter, the selenoid on the starter, brain box, or the tumbler in the ignition? this is my dd and i have no clue. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure the security light isnt coming on.

It shouldnt click if its a security thing.

It does sound like security, but if you think it's the starter you can always remove that and have it tested at Autozone.

my security light has always been on since i put my aftermarket cd player on bout 3 years ago. would the obd2 reader tell me the problem?

Sounds like a failing starter. You wouldn't get clicking from the starter if there was a security issue. Have you tried whacking the starter with a hammer yet?

replaced fuel pump 6 months ago cant be that. working on car today.

Agreed, I would check the starter. You can test it by running a jumper cable from the battery positive to the terminal on the starter motor and see if the starter motor actually turns the engine. Just don't have the key in or it may start. Then try moving the jumper cable to the positive on the solenoid and see if it cranks. If it does, then then starter is good.

The same happened to me. The security light came on, then I went to the dealer and they said: <a computer needed to be replaced (or reprogram, I think), no matter how long the car runs with the security light, the car will not start some day>. I did not put attention to that, I put an aftermarket alarm and the car was working great, until the prophecy happened after 3 years. The pump noise when you turn the car is not a click, but a buzz sound.
