so my firebird left me stranded. When i put the key in the ignition, i can turn all the accessories(radio, gauges etc) on. when i make the final turn to start the car it just starts clicking at the starter and brain box. My battery was reading 9 amps/volts. so i took my brand new one out of my suburban and hooked it up, it didnt start the car. So my question is, is it my starter, the selenoid on the starter, brain box, or the tumbler in the ignition? this is my dd and i have no clue. any help would be greatly appreciated.

It does sound like security, but if you think it's the starter you can always remove that and have it tested at Autozone.Comment

Sounds like a failing starter. You wouldn't get clicking from the starter if there was a security issue. Agreed, I would check the starter. You can test it by running a jumper cable from the battery positive to the terminal on the starter motor and see if the starter motor actually turns the engine. Just don't have the key in or it may start. Then try moving the jumper cable to the positive on the solenoid and see if it cranks. The same happened to me. The security light came on, then I went to the dealer and they said: <a computer needed to be replaced (or reprogram, I think), no matter how long the car runs with the security light, the car will not start some day>. I did not put attention to that, I put an aftermarket alarm and the car was working great, until the prophecy happened after 3 years.
