I recently installed my second Autozone Duralast water pump under warranty on my 3.4L Camaro (see my other thread questioning the sanity of that decision), and today I checked everything for leaks. I released the tension on the belt and wiggled the water pump pully and could notice a very slight, but noticable, movement of the shaft in the water pump bearing. I don't have a guage to measure it, but I would say less than 1/64 of an inch of play up-and-down or side-to-side, just enough to feel/hear the movement.
Is this normal? If not normal, is this okay? If not okay, does anyone have a source explicitly saying that there shall be no play (or a tolerance for acceptable/unacceptable play). The reason is, I may be taking it out before it completely fails and I need documentation so I can make a decent argument for my money back so I can purchase a non-Autozone pump.
