i was using an ac delco fuel pump rebuild kit, on my dads oldsmobile alero. it has the same sytem as our vehicles as far as there is a bucket. i broke the plastic elbow at the bottom of the bucket that the small hose hooks onto to fill it. it had a ball and spring in it. and on the inside there was a little rubber that would close over the inlet whenever it wasn't pumping fuel into the bucket. is it a bad idea to cut a hole in the bucket to allow the gas in the tank to cool the pump. i know most people do this if they buy walbro kits. or is there a better option?(without buying a new pump assembly)

Re: need fuel pump help quick!
Use hose clamps to clamp everything together and ditch the bucket.08' L76 6.0L 4X4 Chevy EXT.Cab LTZ Vortec MAX with Snug top cover, Dynomax exhaust,Hptuners& K&N intake

Re: need fuel pump help quick!
1. How in the world did you break that?
2. The car will have no venturi operation, the pump draws fuel from the bucket and the venturi keeps the bucket full. So they may run out of gas prematurely. Getting rid of this system is a hack job way of installing a pump.
Best bet is go to the wreckers and get a used bucket and put a walbro from Racetronix in there that retains the venturi function. (Probably a W body pump will work)

Re: need fuel pump help quick!
i understand how it works, the ac delco pump retains the venturi. its easy as hell to break. i was impatient and didn't heat it up. its installed with the bucket cut and running like ****.... idles fine but underload it'll fall on it's face then climb 5,000 rpm and fall on its face, on and on.... hating life right now. i know its not an ideal install. but its been done for a long time. even from the factory. i think its the pump, but not for certainLast edited by thebeewantsboost; 01-12-2012, 10:48 PM.

Re: need fuel pump help quick!
do you think it could be the bucket? i doubt it....... don't think its a kinked line or else, it wouldn't just be wot... sounds like the pumps not movign enough volume.. just not sure if its a weak pump or if its because theres no gas there...... but there has to be gas there.........fml

It sounds like the pump may be leaking in the bucket. You should find a picture and show us what you broke!

Re: need fuel pump help quick!
Yup there was most likely a spring and ball in there.
What you should have done is cut that black venturi hose as close to the original brass nipple on the pump as possible. and then justn ot touched it the rest of the time. These old buckets the plastic can be pretty brittle and that stuff is bound to happen. I would definetly try the wreckers for a used bucket now though, I think that bucket is kaput! For that pump to work in that bucket now you would need to block off the brass nipple, which would be hard because of the pressure in the pump and the fact it is submerged in gas :(

the hose is on the pump just the part where it normal goes into the basket with the ball valve is broken off... when it was in the tank the small hose was actually sitting in the correct position just without the ball valve. seems like i could have also just put the hose in the bucket and not cut up the basket.
