  • 3.4 Problem

New to the Site . I recently got a 1995 3.4 Camaro and I am having a problem with it.When it gets warm say after a 20 mile commute when you shut it off and then try to restart it acts like the battery is run down. Then after it cools down maybe 20 mins or so it will fire right up.I have had the battery/alternator tested no problems found. I have been told that my timing could be to fast and told that my starter is going bad. Has anyone else had a problem like this any help would be appreciated .

It could be your starter going bad. Autozone can test that.

Could be a bad cell in the battery, might check out ok but once warm its dead.

Check battery, terminals and also the ground cables going to the chassis and engine block.

Does the engine make any noise? Like a knock? I have seen spun rod and main bearings do this. I know this isn't what you want to hear, but possible if every thing else checks out.

No noises just after it gets warm when you cut it off then try to restart it drags before it starts. But after it cools down it fires right up

I would bet it's the starter. It gets heat-soaked and then doesn't work well. You've tested the charging system, so it's not that. If it was a bad ground it would do it all the time. Plus, the car is at the age (and probably mileage) where the starter would be suspect.

Just don't buy the starter there. I had a freind with a M#$%*&g and his Autozone starter froze with the contacts closed. The wiring caught fire from the short. Had he not kept an emaculant engine bay (free of oil) he'd be out a car.

I never made it to O'reilly to have it checked. However the starter died on me Friday and put a new one on and the problem is gone now.
