  • New "to me" 1998 Camaro V6 - seized engine

My son and I, bought this 98 V6 as a project. shortly after we got it, we heard piston slap then the engine locked down. Now its more of a fixer than we had planned.

So, getting to the point, I'm looking for a rebuilt long block in the Dallas area.

    So far I have found:

    ASG - http://advancedsalesgroup.com/
    Bolt-on-Motors - http://www.bolt-on-motors.com
    City Motors - http://www.citymotorsupply.com
    Blaine's Motors - http://blainesmotorsupply.com

Price and warranties for a long block vary wildly, anyone with experience with these or other shops in the Dallas area?

    Thanks,

    David

You could also get a low mileage engine from a wrecking yard, the FWD 3.8L will work with your heads intake and accesories.

If you're going to stick with a stock engine then don't buy those stuff. They'll end up costing you more than buying a whole engine.

Check the For Sale section here from time to time. Members tend to sale their drivetrain.

      Welcome to the board.

Thanks for the tip on the FWD engines, that makes it a lot easier to find a low mileage engine.

Currently I'm looking at motor from a 2009 Buick Lacrosse for about $900. Only 19k miles and it is still in the car.

Will there be any issues with swapping the flywheel since I will be going from the automatic transmission in the Buick to the 5-speed in the Camaro?

        Thanks,

        David

Thats why I pointed you in that direction,it will save you lots of money.

The flywheel should bolt right up.

I put a 3800 from an 08 lucern in my car, as an automatic. Then swapped it to a 5 speed, no issues. Almost every stud had to be pulled out to swap my intake and accessories, but i got the engine with 11k miles for around $900 as well.

I finally got an engine from an 06 GP with an automatic. I got my engine out and while comparing the two, I noticed that my engine has a bushing in the end of the crankshaft that reduces the diameter of the recess from approximately 3/4" to 1/2" which matches the end of the shaft from my T5. The engine from the GP doesn't have this.

Is there a part number for this bushing? I can't find anything in the service manual.

This is called a pilot bushing. It is like $8 at the local parts house.

The tapered end will go inside with the rounded end facing out.
