  • Lightening The Car.

In an attempt to lighten the car a little, I wanted to remove some of the heat shields. Is it a bad idea? Are they all necessary or can some be taken off?

    Thanks.

    Re: Lightening The Car.

I would leave the heat shields alone. They keep things from melting.

    Things you can remove:

    Front bumper support
    A/C system
Keep washer fluid at 1/4-1/2 full.
    Rear Seats
    Carpet
    Sound deadening material under carpet
    Floor Mats
    Door Panels
    Rear Seatbelts
    Stereo/Amp/Speakers
    Spare/Jack
The rest of the interior plastic

Things to replace with lighter stuff:

    Tubular K-Member
Tubular Upper & lower a arms
    Aluminum Driveshaft
    Dump exhaust before axle

    Distribution:
Move battery to trunk or run smaller battery.

Here is a link of weights of different parts -http://www.bfranker.badz28.com/fbody/weights.htm

Tony, mine are all gone with the exception of the one above the cat (stripped bolt I can't get out with my exhaust in the way) and the one by my gas tank.

I'm going to attempt to install my headers and sub-frame connectors soon, and I thought while I was under there, I might as well get rid of some stuff:)

Hahaa, now you're taking after my motto...should add a few of my suspension parts while you're down there ;)
