  • Hard starting 97 Camaro

Hello Board, I got a problem with my 97 3.8 Camaro. It is getting harder and harder to start. It used to fire off right away but now I have to crank it over quite a few times before it starts. When it does start it runs rough for about 3 to 5 seconds then runs smooth like normal. Have changed the TPS, MAF, cleaned the ICV, cleaned the throttle body and air cleaner. Have checked for any vacumn leaks. Replaced plugs and wires about 2500 miles ago. Have changed the fuel filter also. With the key off I can depress the schrader valve on the fuel rail and I get no fuel, if I turn the key on I get a strong spray of fuel so I am guessing the pump must be pumping. The car runs great after I get it started. I am at a loss at what to look for next. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Forgot to say. no codes came up.

Try changing the Fuel Pressure Regulator. That seems to be a common problem for our cars when it's starting to get hard to do cold start.
