Re: Rad Fan Will Not Stop

I've replaced all the relays, checked all the wiring and connectors as well as replaced the coolant temp sensor. Swapping the ECU was may last ditch effort. I bought a manual fan switch setup just in case the ECU isn't the culprit. Now I can get Letzride to throw a tune on for me no matter the outcome.
My car is a 5 speed just like the one the ECU came from. Only difference should be the VIN #.

I would try the manaul fan switch first.

The problem changed a little. Now the fans will not turn on.Pulled the car out of storage last weekend with the intention of installing the manual fan switch and getting the car on the road. I was going to replace my ECM as well to a 97 model year. When I pulled it out, I noticed that there was a lot of corrosion on the pins and the connectors. I guess the computer was telling the fans to turn on and off, but they weren't getting the signal. Can someone recommend a good contact cleaner? I would rather not have to replace the connectors or pins. I don't have the patience or manual dexterity for that kind of delicate work.

How bad does it look? Might try water and baking soda , I know it works on battery terminals.

Re: Rad Fan Will Not Stop

Oh my, that's a lot of corrosion. I don't know if it would work for that area, but I used to use muriatic acid/hydrochloric acid to get rid of corrosion on marker/tail light contacts. It's really strong though, I'm not sure if it would be ok for all of that plastic. I've never used anything else that gets rid of corrosion as well as that does. If you try to go that route, be extremely careful with it. It looks like you might have to replace that whole plug though..

I would still try baking soda and see what it does.

I think you should get a new/used pcm,I think this could be the start of many more electrical gremlins.

I already have another pcm. I think I should replace the connectors though. Going to be difficult to find around here. Not sure if GM sells just the connectors. Might have to get an entire harness.

might be easier to just go to a scrap yard...snip that portion of the harness, sit there and one by one unpin and repin each wire...shouldn't be too hard to do, just time consuming...

Got a clean connector from the scrap yard on the weekend. Came from a 96 automatic. Does anyone know if the pin-outs are different for autos and T-5's?
