Re: No harmonic balancer anywhere in the US? Help!
FirebirdGt,
I contacted gmpartsdirect.com. There is a problem, they don't have the part. No one has the bloody part. They quit making the part years ago. I am now looking at salvage yards.
I spent over four hours online yesterday trying to locate the part made for my car. I will find it. It will just take some time.
Hi,
I am sorry, we do not have access to a photograph of the part in question. The part number you requested has been discontinued and is no longer available from GM. You will have to find an aftermarket source for this part.
Thank you,
F Norton

Re: No harmonic balancer anywhere in the US? Help!
I simply can't express to you enough that a 1995 through 2002 3.8l harmonic balancer will work on any car from 1995-2002 3.8l. There was no change in the part that would affect its overall function. I found you three different balancer from www.rockauto.com, from different manufacturers, at different prices, and you're STILL having problems?
I guarantee there are probably 50+ people on this site alone that know your car better than any ASE Master Certified tech you can find. We're here to help....but it seems like you want to get trailed around from outside sources that tell you something different than what we're telling you. Don't let them do that. This site is quite possibly the best source for these cars other than GMs engineering and development department.

Agreed, when I put an engine from an 06 grand prix into my car, many GM "experts" said it wouldn't fit, transmission wouldn't bolt up etc....

Thank you for your input. I agree, the members on this site have a wealth of knowledge that has always provided me with great results. For example, some jerkweed told me I had to replace my tensioner pulley when I saw a leak coming from a hose. He said with parts and labor the bill would be $600. After coming to these forums and researching I discovered the tensioner housing was missing a $.10 o-ring. 10 cents!
I keep coming back here because it is on the V6 forums I have successfully diagnosed and repaired $4,000 worth of parts and service in the last 4 and a half years. Had it not been for the articles, the threads and the feedback of the community I would have had to part with my beloved car years ago.
That said, the newer balancer looks larger than the old one. Is it? Or is it the same size? If there is a difference in diameter? I need to know so I can also buy a new belt to take to the garage after he installs the balancer.
I cannot afford to screw up the first time around as I will be charged twice for labor if the guy has to go back in to my car. :o

Still trying to find oil leak on my Camaro, it’s a tough one. I think it is the oil pressure sender myself. Leaking when raving and going into boost....
