In the wake of my excitment for my new SLP intake box that is on it's way, i decided to do a little tinkering on my bird.
I've been getting a lot of "running lean" trouble codes (P0171 & P0174) and i read that it could be due to a dirty MAF sensor. I've never cleaned one, so i decided to do that. I don't think it helped any, because i just got the 174 code by itself. Not sure what could be the problem. I'm fairly certain the sensor are only a few years old, but i think my next tinker is to replace them.
which leads me to a question.....
I think there should be a sensor in front of the cat converter and one after it, right? I found the one behind it, but i don't see one in front of it. I have the pacesetter headers, that go into a 2-to-1 Ypipe that is welded to the front of the cat. I don't see a sensor around there anywhere. I do however feel a piece of metel sticking out of the side (towards the driver's side) of the Ypipe that feels like a sensor SHOULD be there, but it's just a solid piece. Does anyone know where the other sensor is???
I also ordered and installed the hypertech 180* thermostat. it was pretty easy to put in and then i used the power programmer III to adjust the fans. i doubt i'll notice anything, but it was fun to do.
I wasn't sure what my stock thermostat was. I've read that the 2000+ came with 180*, while the older ones were a 195*. I've also read that they all came with 195*. Not sure which is true, but my 2000 had a 195* in it. It always runs a little bit below the 210 mark on the gauge. we'll see where it runs at now.
I also put in a new PCV unit and other than doing a couple little small clean-up things...it was a fun time to tinker with it in the driveway on a sunday afternoon. i think it's time for a shower then a beer and see what's on netflix!
