Sorry I haven't been around but have to ask for some help on this. So in the last several months during acceleration in my 97 3.8 there has been some studder, very randomly. Well the other day it did that during deceleration is studdered then died. Had it towed back home and will not start. I tried to scan it I didn't get a code but it said it wasn't getting a code from the o2 sensor and the egr valve. Any thoughts?

Re: Issues
The studdering on deceleration could be a the EGR stuck in the open position. If it's not getting a signal from the O2 when cold, that could be expected because when the engine is cold it's in open-loop mode, and I think that means it ignores the O2's.
I would think it would still start, though, even with a bad EGR. It would just run like crap. Check for spark and then check the fuel pressure. I'll bet one of those is missing2002 Silver Firebird A4<br />T-Tops, Leather, Y87, W68, Chrome Wheels<br />Bone Stock

Re: Issues
Mine went when i was at a light in an intersection. I had studdering here and there and that day it went. I was at a stop and once i accelerated it studdered like a motha and boop, down for the count lol. Would not start up for anything. Expensive fix if that ends up being the problem. Id look into the method of removing it via cutting into the panel above the fuel pump. Otherwise you need to drop the fuel tank, which is not fun and a bit of work. That is of course, if its your fuel pump

Re: Issues
kind of sounds like the fuel pump. Mine went out at around 130k i think. Check the pressure at the rail, should be ~44psi

Re: Issues
Not sure about that because the fuel pump did get the car running. Now I just have power cut off during acceleration. It could be and thanks for the tip, so this is in the front of the engine? ....
I was also thinking the fuel pressure regulator.Last edited by 97burnout; 10-20-2012, 02:27 AM.

Re: Issues
Hook up a manual fuel gauge off the fuel rail to see what PSI your reading.08' L76 6.0L 4X4 Chevy EXT.Cab LTZ Vortec MAX with Snug top cover, Dynomax exhaust,Hptuners& K&N intake
