  • firebird spits out fuel!

so on the 20th my bird spit out the gas. i would start filling it up, and it would act full and just spit it right out. i put 93 octane. it has never done this till the 20th.

the next day i put 20 into the tank and nothing happened until later on when i needed to fill up again and it did the same thing, it just spit it right out. it still turns on with the last of the gas it has.

im guessing that i have dirt or something in the tank . cause if i let the car sit , all the dirt flows right back down . and fill up asap nothing happen
also a friend suggested i might have a air stuck?

any suggestion why my bird is doing this i replaced the pump last year but used could that also be the cause?

it would be a big help if yall can give some input.

    thanks

Maybe it doesn't like that brand of gas. LOL

Do a tank burp by placing a hose for ventilation before filling it up again. What you do is drive the car around till it's warm and when it's time to fill it up, place a hose in the spout and leave it open for a minute or 2 to vent out the vapors that built up (that's why it's called a tank burp) and then remove it and fill it up and see what happens. I would recommend not filling it up all the way. Maybe just half a tank for now and see what happens.

I could be wrong on this but I hope this helps you.

I did a little googling on this because this is a new problem to me. I found a few people had problems like this that were related to the evap solenoid. Do you have a SES light?

Sounds like the vent is clogged. Have you tried putting the gas in very very slowly? I would try to put the gas in super slowly and see if it will take the gas.

yea i did , it goes in by like 3 cents a sec and then the pump does the click and stops pumping , guessing from the back pressure and then it starts to spit it right out , i can only get like 2 dollars in before it spits it out

Trace the fill tube from the point where the nozzle goes it all the way to the tank. Maybe it got damaged by something? It almost sounds like the fill tube is collapsed or clogged.

                      Odd to say the least.

Definately let us know why it's doing that.

I should've said this is more common to older cars, especially with carbs.
