I have a 2000 Camaro, occassionally I get a high pitched sound from the rear of the car when the car is in motion and when the car is not but the engine is on. It does not change if the car is in gear or in neutral.
Any ideas...(no its not the radio rear speakers)
If your talking hatch area, perhaps your fuel pump? Thats the only thing I can think of that would make a noise like that in the rear while in gear or neutral.
Thanks, I never thought of that but that is really the only thing back there that is operating all the time...my gas mileage lately has sunk to about 15 mpg too.
called Chevy dealer and he said, keep tank near full...maybe it is just noisy.
New fuel pump at dealer is about $1300...big job..drop fuel tank etc.
I am going to follow that advice.

in my opinion , i think its better if you drop the tank , im finally going to do it next week on wensday or Thursday but i have access to a lift and air tools. last i did it was a month or 2 ago and it took me about 3 hours but this time it will go allot quicker since i know what too take off and in what order.
Meh I have changed the fuel pump both ways. Unless I had a ss or firehawl I wouldn't ever bother dropping the tank again. Its a 30 minute job to cut the hole change it and patch it.
I seriously don't get why everybody complains about dropping the tank, done it serveral times and it took less than 2 hours for the entire job. The last thing im gonna do is cut a hole in the car I am trying so hard to keep as intact as possible.

This is a subject that people, for some dumb reason, are hugely opinionated about. If you want to pay someone 1200 to do it go ahead. If you want to try it yourself be ready for broken suspension bolts. The first couples times I did it dropped the tank. Had to drop the rear end, muffler, pa hard bars, and then finally the tank. The second time I did it on my car I broke out my grinder and had to pick up s piece of carpet.

you did it the hard way, i just drop the whole cat back exhaust and the diconect the fuel lines and the wires connected to it and just slip it though the gap between the rear end and the body of the car and bam its out, easier said than done but that's just the way i do it
