is it possible to swap in a 4.3l v6 and replace the existing v6? will the tranny bolt up to it?
or another gm v6 vortec motor?
    just curious..

    Re: engine swap?

Good question. I think the 4L60E should bolt up to it. I use the S10 Blazer with that motor as my basis. I am pretty sure that it runs that tranny. However that is a big hunk of steel sitting over your front axle, and while it produces excellent low end torque, it leaves much to be desired in the horsepower department. I think if you factor in the weight and the intake system, your better off with a V8 swap.

The intake inlet seems to set directly on top of the intake which would make it hard to fit under our dash like the 3800 does. it would result in having to push the heavier motor forward, which effects weight bias and drive-shaft length and transmission cross-member placement. The only other fitment issue I could see is that the 4.3 has a mechanical fan. Not sure how far forward it would have to go but that could see some issues. Obviously you could delete it though. It is not a drive by wire motor either. So there is another modification, and last but not least, I think that motor is taller.

4.3s are nothing to brag about and wouldn't be worth it to swap. Add in that their trans use the v8 bell housing which would mean your trans wouldn't work as well.

ok, i was just trying to consider some engine options. I got a bad exhaust valve, and bad ring seal in cyl 6. so cyl 6 literally has no oil in it and fuel is getting into the oil pan, and straight fuel is going into the exhaust. not a good combo, so just trying to consider cost options, other engines, etc. idk how much a v8 swap is.

Well depending on what year your car is the costs very. I was looking into an LS swap but I had to ask how much it was going to be. I think if I had about $8K-$9k to put in it I would have done it. Let me explain.

There are a lot of nickel and dime things that you will end up doing.

Your going to want to build whatever you put in there to prevent from having to do this again.

If you want to go from an auto to a manual or vice versa, thats extra.

If you can build your 3800, Id do that. Up to you man. But I would just say build whatever you put in it, so you know what you have, if that makes since.

Replace the cylinder heads with used stock ones, or the whole engine with a used 3800 for a couple hundred bucks. Or if you really want to do a swap, you can find a wrecked Trans Am or Camaro for $5000 or less and swap everything from one car to the other...

Yeah but thats assuming that the engine is good you take out of the wrecked car. It would make sense, IMHO, that you would build it or tear into it to make sure so your not sitting in this position again.

His talking about a scrap yard. Which L26 engines go for about $400. L36 is alittle cheaper.

I got a junk yard engine after the shop did a bate and switch and I got someone else's problems...I would never recommend it based or getting the unknown and not being easy to reverse it.

I've got 3 trannies from the scrap yard all in good shape , never a engine though. Guess it depends on the yard you pull it from.

The Junk yard only knows that the engine survived the crash...nothing more. That's why the sign says "Junk"

Yea, I was referring to a junk yard motor. Some people have better luck than others, I've had to use junk yard motors 4 or 5 times over the years on various vehicles and have never had any issues.
