when I spun my bearing at the track, I still had good oil pressure. The car sounded like a bag of marbles was tossed into my intake though.
Like I said, it would be nicer to hear from the front of the car, with the hood popped.
The first link is of how its running and tje second is a link of the camara underneath the hood. I did it from my phone so if they don't work, my YouTube channel is nateonfireball
i had that noise happen when its cold out about 3 weeks ago but as soon as my engine warmed up it went away and has never came back , sounded just like that too. but the way you can narrow it down is get a screw driver and put it on different points of the engine block you think it might be coming from and put the handle part on your ear canal, where ever its louder that's where its coming from . hope that part made sense or also you can just buy a stethoscope for cars and do the same hope it helps man

Thanks man. Yeah it makes since. I took it to a buddy I know that owns a shop, and put it on the rack and listened to it idle from underneath. It sounded like the crank was like slopping around or something. But it is hard because you dont know if its a resonating sound or if that is the source. The only other note I can say about it is that, I put some castrol conventional in it the last oil change because that is what the Jiffy lube guy recommended. It was way too loud, so I immediately changed it to the royal purple I run in my other cars and it quieted it down a lot. Obviously it still sounds like that but man you should have heard it with conventional oil in it.... Thanks for the pointers.
still hard to tell. Does it go away at all when the car's warm?
you said the motor was rebuilt...
- did you re-use the rocker arm bolts?
- Did they set the timing correctly?
- Did you reuse parts from the old motor? I.e the lifters?
- Are you running the correct weight oil? 10w30?
- Are your header gaskets leaking?
- Is your EGR leaking?

hey man that's what this websites here for to help out other bird owners. this site helped me out alot hen my car was just struggling to stay running but now its running like nothing had happened thanks to this website and to what im learning at school from my tech class, so its my way of saying thanks and try to help out here when i can , and as for the oil i also run royal purple 10w-30 during summer and 5w-30 during winter. for me it give my car the best it can since it takes me from point a to b, day after day. plus its my first car :)
Its a habit. I have 3 BMWs, a C4 corvette, a Butler performance 78 Trans Am, and this car. All the other cars run on premium and I dont see any use in using regular just for monetary purposes. Premium has more resistance to burn, and therefore the engine can use it more precisely, because it wont prematurely burn due to compression. More and more people are telling me that the hypertech is useless, but it says its a "premium" tune. However if it did anything the shift firmness is drastically improved.
And shell's gas has some extra additives that I noticed as well. Cant hurt the car.
Compression is not an issue with an L36/L26 engine. Its CR is only 9.0:1, well within range of running 87 octane. Problem with a higher octane is that it is harder to burn in a lower compression engine, though if thats what you want to throw in it, well, its not my car. You gain nothing from it in any sense.

The EGR was replaced prior to the build. As far as what they reused and didnt reuse I would be lying if I told you. I just paid them about $3900 and told them to fix it. The oil is 10w-30 Royal Purple. I dont think my exhaust is leaking. And yes that video was a warm startup. It does it all the time.

Well good man. Start good habits now and they will become just that, Good habits!

Yeah to be honest I havent ran 87 in a while. I upgraded the ignition system because I knew the premium fuel is harder to burn. I was hoping it would provide a substantial gain in the spark but just for you I may try a tank of 89 and see how that works. You may be right. It may run better on 89. We shall see.
Well since you didnt do the work, take it back to the shop and tell them to figure out whats wrong with it, thats not acceptible. I dont like having shops do work on my cars, especially big projects like that... Shops tend to totally disregard many bolts are tty and slap stuff back together.
The shop should cover any issues under warranty... And 3900$$ is insane... I bought my replacement motor out of a 2005 3800 buick lucerne for 450$, it had 5000km on it and this is in canada land where stuff costs triple what it does you guys.
For 3900$ they better make sure that thing runs smoother than it ever did from factory

Agreed. I need to have them look at it again because that noise is unacceptable. Their excuse is that it runs well, which , if you dont compare it to anything then I guess so.
