The tow was 60, the other $540 was parts and labor.

man where do you take your cars? Starter at autozone is $145, how do they charge you $395 in labour? Even with our shop here that charge 100$/hour labour (which is ridiculous) that's 4 hours labour... Changing the starter is an hour job on your back, on jack stands, in the driveway...On a hoist at a shop it should be half that.

You have an inspection plate that needs 6 easily accessible bolts to take it off and get it out of the way, then 2 bolts to unhook the wires from the starter, and 2 bolts to take the starter out...and dont forget one bolt on the battery so you don't kill yourself.

Every bolt is easy to get to and easy to put in/take out. Please go back to the shop and ask them how you've been charged that much, I can't tell you how bad you are being ripped off...

                    Wow, It's a 15 minute job on a lift for a starter. 30 minutes with ramps/stands.

Yeah man I was pissed. Starter was $250. It sounds like a high torque unit but still man this was really pricey for the job. like seriously. I own German cars, and this still surprised me.

Re: Starter just sounds like blender with no crank

Correction $235.08 for starter, $117.60 for labor, $60.78 for tow, and $160.65 press bushings in on my lower control arms.

On those LCA, I took them off the car, I bought the bushings and he said they spent 1.8 hours on them trying to put them in. I am pissed about this whole thing. No clue how it got that expensive.

Just so I know i am not crazy, this is too much for this right?

ok um in the real world you dont charge how much time you actually spend working on the car you charge what it pays for example. say the starter pays .5 of an hour and the guy charges 30 bucks an hour. that means he gets paid 15 bucks for the work he did even tho it took em 1 hour.

now about the bushing thing . i think that took em too long , maybe he didnt have a press and thats why it too em that long. but still charge 160?? for some bushing replacements installs . you might as well replace it with the new part with the new bushings installed already.

you could of done all that your self you just need some elbow grease, a couple of time to spare. tools and a drive way the only expenses you would of had would of been the starter which should of been 150 , the tow, and bushings could of saved your self 300-400 bucks!

Yeah man that would have been best. I did end up taking all those parts off the rear, I just couldnt press them because I dont have one. The starter thing happened too far away from my house, so I had to get it towed..... I wish I could have done it.

how shops charge is dependent on the shop...most shops will charge how long it takes them, they don't want to be out of pocket because someone has a rusted car that they can't break bolts on.

160 for pressing in bushings is expensive still, I mean, if the guy spent the time, he spent the time...but you mine as well of bought the hotpart poly ball LCA's and swapped em yourself, less headache and an upgrade in the rear without the binding of a boxed LCA
