So I'm almost certain I have a collapsed lifter. I've tried the magic oil and various C2 products. I've read that before an oil change to run the motor with just some tranny fluid or kerosene. Will this work or is it a stupid idea and I should just rebuild the top end of the motor?

I'll just give you my opinion. If you rebuild the top half now you may be able to get away with just that. You dont want to have to rebuild the whole thing, if you do not have to. Thats what I would do. You may have to rebuild the whole thing anyway if metal got in your oil pickup or engine in general. Good luck man, hopefully its not too bad.

I've heads tranny fluid as a cleaner... never as something to help a bad part. If it is bad, I'd take the opportunity to upgrade lifters, rods, and springs. .02$..
