      Re: 500 hp dd???

We had a guy on another board just do 500+ on only 15 psi. Turbo is barely in its efficiency range there and has room for 20+.

It's all in using a well thought out setup where the everything works together accordingly.

        Re: 500 hp dd???

I hope to start getting some parts together soon, but with the higher hp number id like to get it to a corner like a z06 if that possible out of a camaro.

what would i need to have for it to hit corners like a champ?

Yeah, it's important to build a good foundation to handle anything you throw at it. Only major suspension items I lack are an adjustable torque arm and move to a Watts link.

I'm not going to run tubular front control arms, that just asks for failure around here on a DD and rough Lubbock streets.

                  Re: 500 hp dd???

Hey man I would honestly sit down and think about what you want for a while before you do it. Each method of achieving your goals has compromises. If you build a one off V6 turbo, your going to have issues unloading it because a potential buyer is going to see it as a huge risk. I am no expert on GM V6's however I do know that its going to need some work to get it to breathe. You can make ANY engine make power its more about preferences and budget really. If you complete an LSX swap, you will be able to have a V8 car with V6 insurance and thats a strong selling point, should you want to get rid of it. The obvious suspension mods at that power level are going to be mandated regardless of the route you go. Tubular rear control arms, adjustable panhard bar, torque arm, poly bushings and whatever gear you want.

As far as engine goes I'd ask a couple of questions. Do I want to deal with turbo lag? What level of streetability am I willing to live with? Do I want to listen to a V6 all the time? ( I personally cant stand to but its preference nevertheless). Is the architecture of my engine such that its strong enough to handle the abuse I throw at it? (meaning is it tuned to the last inch of its life?)

Personally, I would buy a LSX engine and slowly go through it as budget permits or tear it town and build it back up, whichever you can do. Go ahead and buy the goodies, like your cam you want, a fast intake manifold, headers, get your heads worked on, maybe some MSD ignition parts, and just build it as you want it. When the time comes get you some BMR control arms for the front and K member and assemble the front suspension around your LSX. Drop out your V6 along with factory front suspension and bolt up your stronger engine and suspension. Get it aligned and burn off.

If your heart desires, built up your V6 in case you blow up your LSX,and if you dont blow it up Im sure someone on here would buy it depending on what it is.

Its up to you on what you want to do man. Thats one way to do it, and the way I would do it. Just gotta sit down and ask yourself some questions. Best of luck man.

                    Re: 500 hp dd???

If it were me, and I am considering the route to go with my Firebird, I'd turbo the V6 and get some upgrades. If you're looking to get close to a 500 bhp daily driver, then you can do some upgrades to the fuel system, transmission, and rear axle that would be well suited to a daily driver that isn't going to try to hit super low 60 ft times on drag tires.

I would personally do some research into a turbo setup that will spool and build boost quickly when the power is called upon by your right foot. That's the beautiful thing about turbo setups, with a little bit of work you can set it up for more torque right away or have a more linear boost increase as speed increases.

If you're trying to keep to a budget and would consider selling the car down the road, then I would look into a turbo setup that doesn't require a lot of fabrication that would increase the cost. Then, do some upgrades to the tranny that would include things like a valvebody rebuild/shift kit and a Corvette style servo, which would run you about $120-140 for the parts. Then, if your car doesn't already have the code GU6/G80 rearend I would consider getting a complete Y87 A4 axle assembly, otherwise I would upgrade to a 3.42 axle ratio with limited slip differential. A 10 bolt with a girdle will handle a decent lil bit of power if you're not trying to launch hard on slicks.

If you're trying to build something that you could drag race quite often, I'd go with an LSx swap with a 12 bolt differential. The 12 bolt will handle a ton of abuse, but takes less power to turn than a 9 inch.

                      Re: 500 hp dd???

I see so many people making such a big deal the difficulty of making XXX hp. When it comes down to it, 6 cylinder or not, its still a gasoline powered internal combustion engine. Make the appropriate modifications with the right parts and you can make the power you want. Is a 3800 harder to make 500hp then a LSX based motor, of course, you have two additional cylinders.

You should be able to make 500rwhp on a built motor easily if you have the right computer and a qualified tuner behind it.

guys are still making 500+ on the gtp rods and generic diamond pistons. a good engine builder, quality computer, and a good tuner will always trump just a bunch of parts hastily thrown at the car.

so what kind of parts list should i get together to make my car handle crazy good, and would rear coil overs be a waste

and i figured out id like it to handel crazy good, then id like to do a little drifting and drag race every once in a wile

Before you dive into a parts list.....
                          1) Do plan to keep this car or eventually sell it?
                          2) How deep are your pockets?
                          3) Do you have a spare car or back-up mode of transportation?

These questions should answer whether or not to even proceed with considering a build...
