  • A/C Compressor Help

    Hello,

I own a 2000 Camaro V6 and I have a question for anyone that has dealt with the AC on this car or similar cars before.

First of all, I had the compressor replaced a couple years ago. The air comes out ice cold...however I have noticed that it has gotten noisy while the AC is off. Upon inspection I discovered the "plate" in front of the pulley is turning slowly, when it should not be. When the AC is on, it spins like it should, however, there seems to be stress or something on the pulley tensioner causing the belt to slip off in the rain and make rattling noises. This has already caused one belt to become shredded and slice off my oil pressure sensor. The new belt simply slips right off when wet.

It may be possible that my tensioner needs to be replaced as well....the car has 150k miles on it and has the factory tensioner. But I know that the AC compressor must be the underlying cause of the problem.

My question is....can the clutch or the "plate" or whatever it's called be replaced or serviced....or do I need to once again replace the entire compressor? Or is this simply a belt tensioner issue and I am way off on my diagnosis?

Any help is appreciated. I would like to avoid going to a mechanic, at least without being educated on the matter.

    Thanks

    Re: A/C Compressor Help

I would get a whole new compressor, sounds like the clutch is bad.

There are rebuild kit but no one really buys them. I would just buy a new compressor.
