  • Window won't go up all the way

So my passenger window won't go up all the way, it'll stop about an inch from the top. If I turn the car off and come back 5 minutes later it will finish rolling up. Is this a sign my window motor is about to die?

Yes. The little resistor strip in the motor is overheating - most common failure. You can replace the window motor as a whole or take it apart and bypass the resistor strip.

If you want to go the latter route, I have a spare window motor that you could take apart to use or practice on.

Is it worth the hassle to take it apart and bypass it? Since I'm seeing new window motors online for between 30-45 bucks. I am fairly mechanically inclined, I just tend to usually not mess with electrical items.

Before you do anything check the felt pads that guide the window up. As the felt pad wears down there is a rubber substance that acts like a brake against the window. The pads are adjustable. I moved mine back a little and the window worked fine. Of course if it is worn down that much it should be replaced. Check out this posting. You can see the 2 pads in the second pic.

That's interesting, I never knew those were there or ever heard anyone say anything about them. I won't even get a chance to pull the door panel off until Sunday; been too busy with work and school, but as soon as I do I'll let ya'll know what I find. Oh and the window motors on both windows are still the original ones too.

My 96 did that; it's a classic case of a bad window motor. Just get a new; swap and youre good. I took off the panels to get to it; its actually a pain in the arse.
