Hey guys, I am hearing a lot of noise from my ignition system that I recently replaced. Any advice of something I can check for? I hear it arcing all the time! new coils, plugs, and wires. I am not sure if the Accel coils require dielectric grease underneath them or not but any advice is welcome, I just want the noise gone!

Are you getting any DTC codes? How do you know its arcing can you see it at night?

No Codes related to Ignition. The EGR is deleted so the CEL is on but thats it. I cannot see any arching at night. I took the module off and the plate it sits on and I sanded the plate and cleaned the module and added grease. When I put it together the car was silent until it warmed up. Something that it never does.

          It could be defective.

Next time let it warm up and use a listening device just to be sure it is coming from there and or from which coil. I have a feeling that might not be your problem.

The reason why I think that's not the problem is because if it's arching your engine would be stumbling during idling.

Do you still have your stock coils? Try swapping them in and see if the problem continues. There's mixed reviews on all aftermarket 3800 coils. And for what it's worth, ZZP posted a picture a while ago on their Facebook of OEM, MSD, Accel, and ZZP coils cut in half, and the OEM's looked the best.

Yes I had a brand new set of Ac-Delco's that I bought a while back. I had the Accels on there for a long time and they made the noise. The stock ones are on there right now and are making the same noises, leading me to believe the ignition module is the culprit?

It may also be worth mentioning that in the past week, its gone threw a coil and it burned up 2 wires. (not from the headers but the resistance in the wires shot up all of the sudden making them not work)

I would think if it was the ICM or coils you would be getting codes like PO300 or a specfic cylinder code.

Yeah I am not getting any ignition codes. I am just getting broken coils and wires. These were all new too. Ive been threw 3-4 sets of coils. 2 sets of wires.

See if you can dig up an ICM from a local junkyard. I'm sure they can't be more than a few dollars used. Maybe someone else knows if other 3800 ICM's fit our cars or if they are F-Body specific. Or just spring for a new one. As with any other part, they can be defective from the factory though. I replaced the ICM in my old Grand Am with an Autozone part and the first one was defective, the second still worked until the next owner ran the car into the ground.

Icms from 96 through 09 work, either supercharged or n\a I just put a 2006 grand prix icm in mine(paid $35). Same for the coils 96 through 09 supercharged or N\a.

If your not getting any codes with new icm, coils and wires its not the Ign. System, it has to be something else. How's the spark plugs? Also what plugs are you using and the gap on them?
