  • Changing spark plugs and wires?!

Ok, I take my car into my auto class yesterday. My teacher who used to own his own shop and before that was a mechanic for liek 15 years, said there was no way in hell I could change the plugs and wires inside my car. It was too hard. I took a look at it too, you can't eve reach most of them, let alone fit a socket over the plug. How do you guys do this? I am totally stumped

It's easier than many people think. The plugs on the driver's side can be changed from the top (except maybe the very last one). On the passenger's side only the first one can be reached from the top; for the last two you have to raise your car and go from the bottom.

Is he suggesting that you take the engine out for a plug/wire swap?!? Everyone else on the board does it with the engine in the car...something makes me think that if you hold your mouth right, you will be able to also.

I've changed spark plugs and wires on my car three times already. Last time it only took me 1.5 hours.

Any tricks that you know of to do? All of my plugs have caps on them, are those hard to get off.

uhh, if you're in shop, you have lift access, it's a 2 hour job if you have a lift...fairly simple, i feel bad for the v8 guys though, the 6 is still pretty rough to do for the rookies
