• Lexan replacements? illegal?

Well I just found a lexan window/windshield set for my car, and thinking about buying it, just kinda wondering if its illegal or not. Not like it will really make a difference, I also placed an oder for my sparco 4-points today, and I know those are illegal. pfft write me the ticket. But the replacements save me like 64 lbs I think it was, plus its better than glass and sheds water better.

Just wondering.

Mm.. another trick for some weight savings, cut out those old steel floor panels, and weld in new aluminum ones, another 100lbs or so I am guessing. Even better it doesn't rust!

I don't know if lexan is street legal or not, but as far as using a harness on the street goes it's dangerous. You limit your body to turn and check the blind spots. Also, you shouldn't be using one unless your car is caged because if you roll the car and the roof comes in you're screwed.

I doubt your floor panels weight in anywhere near 100lbs. There are a lot of other things you can save weight on before I would bother cutting away the floor.

Lexan scratches very easily, you'll lose visibility out the front quick if it was legal.

And have fun welding aluminum to steel

I'm not doing it Another guy is going to do that for me, don't know how, might end up being screws and a sealer... Didn't really think about the welding part lol...

I am putting in at least an 8 point, probably a 10 point. No way am I taking a chance of eating my doors if I get hit in the side. And personally I had a 12 in my Iroc and man it just looked hot with the tops off

As far as the Lexan glass, any other type out there I can replace it with that would weigh less and shed the water better, thats really what I want the most.

anything but glass is illegal on the streets and you need to do some serious research on not only your car but all cars in general before you go doing anything to your car for your and your cars safty.
One: you can't weld steel to alum.
Two: our cars have whats called a subframe which mean that we don't have frame rails running the entire length of the car like old cars so after the front subframe the only things keeping the car together is the floor and roof structer, if you cut out the floor or the main roof pillar the car WILL fold in half unless you properly reinforce and screws and a sealer is not going to cut it

I know you can't weld steel to aluminum, it just didn't cross my mind.

And there was never an f-body made with a full frame rail. There were always uni-bodies with subframes, I know that very well. I don't know what will all be involved in the new floors, but I know I am doing it because they are damaged from an accident. I know a guy that has replaced them before a friends family member, so he is willing to do it with me, he has the assembly books from GM on our cars, that I'm sure will be a great help.

Just wondering what can be unsafe about a cage, seats, and belts? ROFL
You are held into the seat better with better support, the force on your body from the seat belt is equal across your chest instead of causeing a twist in an accident, and a cage well no explination needed there... So I'm not sure what you are talking about a problem with studying safety, if its one thing I know about cars more it s the dang stereos and thats about it! Safety and suspension are the first things I do on a car every time I get one, then comes the serious performance.

I never said f-body's were full frame cars, learn to read. There would be very little weight benifit to switching out formed sheet metal for plates of alum. if there was don't you think you would see drag racers doing it??? what the fuk are you talking about studying safty I never said that, I said you need to do more research on your car and cars in general before you cutting and changing things that could comprimise the stabilty and structer of the car.
