  • Head gasket replacement

Ok, so my car needs it head gasket replaced, and I figured that you guys could give me a straight answer on this, since no one else has. Do you have to take out the engine to replace the head gasket, or can I just do it in my driveway?

In your driveway will work fine. Be sure to set aside a goodly amount of time and band-aids if this is your first time. Although not an incredibly difficult job, it is somewhat time consuming. Post up at the time if you need any help or tech advice!

The first thing I bought for my car was a Hayne's manual, but in it they always have the engine out of the car. I was told on other websites that I couldn't lift the heads off to replace the gaskets, and I wanted to make sure before I spent any money on parts, or even worse, take it to a mechanic.

Ok, I didn't state what model I have, I forgot it's not in my sig here yet, so I need to make sure that I can do this. It's a 94 Auto, obviously a v6, or I wouldn't be posting here. So are you all sure that I can do it?

Yeah, it is pretty easy if you are good with tools. If you would like, I can scan the Chilton's manual that shows the head gasket removal/installation if you want. Drop me an E-mail and let me know. There are also a few special tools that you will need to get the job done such as the fuel line disconnect tool. Lemme know if you want the info.
