  • 3.4 has a hesitation

My 94 firebird has a hesitation from when you are stopped and then lightly press the throttle to move up. It feels like it is going to die on me, but it doesn't. It only happens under light throttle. Other then that it's a strong motor. Is that just a thing a 3.4 does or is it bad? It has 133K on the motor.

Could be a number of things... try looking at the basics... air filter, cleaning the intake and throttle body, spark plugs and wires... Maybe try some injector cleaner too. Good luck

Could also be the throttle position sensor on the side of the throttle body. You can test that with a multi-meter by testing for continuance throughout the throttle range.

Mine has recently started doin that at 118k miles. All new plugs and wires as well. It only does it sometimes tho. Its recently got really cold as well. Im thinkin either dirty injector or just coldness.

I had a 3.4L w/ 130K miles on it and it started doing that as well... It turned out it was the catalytic converter. I let it go and it finally got so clogged that the exhaust started going through the EGR valve :( Have the cat checked out, if nothing else fixs the problem.

Ya it started getting cold here too. Oh well it doesn't bother me that much, just get alittle bit more throttle. It always seems to help!

would it help if he took off the catco and welded a piece of pipe in its place or does that hurt performance?
