  • oil pressure sending unit

Okay, on the 3.4 there is a slight leak(real slow, but it is there) around my oil pressure sending unit.

I think that it is just a little loose and needs to be removed, cleaned off, new teflon tape added around the threads, and reinstalled to the right tightness.

Anyone run into this problem before where it turned out to be more or should it be as simple as I laid it out?

I'm gonna do fix it when I do my next oil change this coming weekend, so any I'll try it and see if it works.

Uhm no but I had a slight leak right where it tightens up on the bolt, just like you're problem, fixed it with teflon tape and it worked really well. I first used silicone and it didn't seem to work just made a mess, worked well w/ the teflon thought. First cleaned the area w/ engine degreaser then apply the teflon (helps to notice any leaks).

Yeah I was thinking it needed to be cleaned anyway. It is covered in filth and oil and needs it anyway. Sweet.

There is a oil sending unit socket at Autozone that is just a few dollars and may help out a little to get it off and back on. Remember that with teflon tape to put it on so that when you are screwing the oil sending unit in, it is not working against the wrap of the tape.

make sure that it's not leaking from the sending unit itself instead of the threads. If it's coming out of the body then you need a new sending unit

What HBH just said, I had my acutal sending unit leak, and honestly I think this is more likely then it getting loose. IF you do work on the car, I reccomend, getting the unit before hand if you don't need it then return it. Because its a pain to put it back on and drive to the parts store if you do need it, and then have to work on a hot car.

Mine started off slowly at first then got to the point where I was losing a quart every 70 miles.
