OK well the other day I was pissed off, and I slammed my door as hard as I possibly could. The (drivers side)mirror shattered. Now I could goto the dealership and pay 98$ for a new one or just goto a junkyard and get a used one. my questio is:
Does anybody know how I take the mirror off? or do I have to replace the whole piece?? thanks
if you remove the little triangle peice inside the door there are 3 (I think) bolts that hold the mirror to the car. after you have the mirror off of the car then you can just move it around in the housing and there are like 4 screws inside the housing that you remove and the mirror assemlby will come out of the housing. hope that this helps.
and you must have really slammed the door to break the mirror like that don't do that :D

yes it is a philips screw and when you put it back togeather be sure not to over tighten that screw or you will crack the plastic triangle peice.

The glass part of the mirror can be replaced by itself. You don't have to unscrew anything. Just grab the inner piece that the actual reflecting mirror is on, and pull it straight out. Then you'll have to get all the pieces of mirror off that part..the mirror is still stuck on, correct? You can buy just the mirror alone from the dealer. It doesn't cost more than $30 I believe. It will just stick to the plastic piece with adhesive tape from the back of the mirror. To put it back on, just push the two 'bars' on the back of it, into the two 'prongs' inside the mirror unit.
I did this with power mirrors.
I don't know if I'm reading your problem correctly..because I don't see why you want to take the whole mirror device off. If you just shattered the actual glass, then do as I suggested above.

Yeah, check out Pep Boys if there is one near you. They sell an aftermarket kit to fit most domestic and foreign cars. I pummeled my drivers side mirror of my wife's minivan with a swinging iron driveway baracade at the church about six months back...felt real stupid. Just took out the old pieces and stuck the new one on with the gummed backing supplied...good as new!
hey...knowwhat? After I did this post, I remembered...I got a mirror question. On the firebird Driver's side, I went through one of those blasted carwashes and it hung up in there and whipped my mirror silly. I removed it to find that the carwash broke off that triangular piece inside...I glued it back but it is shimmying again and I'm wondering if any of you know a better fix than the epoxy I used. I can get all of the pieces back together. Its just a a matter of making them stick...blessings
is it a metal peice or plastic? if it is metal use JBWELD if it is Plastic I got some SUPER DUTY SUPER glue from I think autozone that is currently holding ONe of the wires in place on mine.

With these newer cars, its hard to say what's metal or what's fiberglas. It is part of main mirror housing so I'd say metal as it bears the weight of the stress.
